Thanks to the support of our generous Sponsors and Donors, CHIRLA’s 2012 Spring Gala was a big success! Over 500 community leaders, politicians, advocates, organizations and individuals joined us at the historic Park Plaza in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate the leaders who have forged Pathways to Promise for the immigrant community. The event was covered by EFE World News, KMEX-TV 34, La Opinion, and KCRW, among others.
The evening’s Honorees: Gilbert Cedillo, California State Assemblymember; Stewart Kwoh, President and CEO, Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC); the Immigration Attorneys of the Los Angeles Raids Rapid Response Network; and the
Members and Leaders of the CLEAN Carwash Campaign represent CHIRLA’s many allies who have won victories for the immigrant community in their fight for progress, justice and acceptance. They have forged new avenues of possibility for workers, students, and our movement as a whole, and we were delighted to recognize the accomplishments of this distinguished group of leaders for our community.
The Master of Ceremonies for CHIRLA’s Gala was Emmy-winning Telemundo Anchor and Reporter, Ana Patricia Candiani, and our Honorees received their awards from Guest Presenters including: Congresswoman Judy Chu; California Assemblymember, Betsy Butler; Los Angeles City Councilmember, Eric Garcetti; Lavinia Limon, President & Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI); Raids Survivor and Freedom Award Winner, Osfel Andrade; and Erika Suarez, California Dream Network.
With your help, we raised over $100,000 for CHIRLA's programs, vital funding to continue our work serving and empowering low-income immigrant workers and youth throughout California. This funding will support CHIRLA's core programs for low-income immigrants including community education, organizing, civic engagement, policy advocacy, and leadership development for youth. Through your generous contributions, CHIRLA reaches 25,000 people each year. Thank you for your support!
