Job Title: Southern California Campaign Coordinator

Position: Full-time, January – July 2012

Position Summary:
The California Domestic Worker Coalition is made up of domestic-worker run and led organizations from the across the state who are organizing workers and communities in support of the California Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights.  The Coalition seeks to win a comprehensive Bill of Rights to eliminate discriminatory provisions in the labor code and grant domestic workers basic rights that other California workers gain through collective bargaining.  The position will help the Coalition achieve this goal in the first half of this year. The Coalition also strives to bring the voices of domestic workers to the forefront of a powerful movement for social and global justice
 
The Southern California Campaign Coordinator will be expected to: 1) coordinate the implementation of strategy, and monitor campaign workplans and timelines; 2) identify and forge strategic alliances in Southern California; 3) prepare and support Coalition members and organizations to take leadership within the campaign.
 
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and monitor campaign goals and outreach in Southern California
  • Maintain communication with Campaign Director and Northern California Coalition staff
  • Represent the Coalition in Southern California, and in meetings and events
  • Identify new strategic local allies and devise plans for forging these alliances
  • Coordinate internal communication of Southern California Coalition groups and supporters
  • Facilitate and coordinate Coalition and Campaign meetings in Southern California
  • Prepare Coalition members to provide leadership for Sacramento advocacy days
  • Monitor, adjust, and evaluate campaign workplan and timeline for Southern California Coalition
  • Work in close coordination with Campaign Director

 

Job Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience in public policy work
  • Familiarity with grassroots organizing and base-building
  • Comfort with the implementation of a range of organizing strategies and tactics
  • Understanding of issues facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and other communities of color
  • Strong relationship- and coalition-building skills
  • Proficiency with computer operations and programs
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Creative problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a dynamic team
  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours
  • Bilingual Spanish/ English preferred.  Tagalog and other languages a plus.
